Dr. Panos Gikas is a London-based orthopedic surgeon that dedicates his career in improving the procedures of knee arthroplasty, revision hip, treating knee cartilage injuries, and the management of primary and metastatic bone cancer. Ultimately, he is dedicated to developing ways to perform orthopedic surgeries in a safe and minimally invasive manner.
He learned his first lessons about hip and knee operations during his time at London, where he conducts his practices now. Panos Gikas got his BSc in Medical Genetics at the University of London, where he graduated with first-class honors. Gikas will then go to St. George University of London where he got his Medicinae Baccalaureus Baccalaureus Chirurgiae or MBBS. Decided to travel other places, he went to the University of Athens to get his Ph.D. in General Surgery. In addition to these accomplishments, Panos Gikas also completed a Seddon Travelling Fellowship at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. This is where he honed his specialist skills in bone tumor management. He also completed a fellowship in Geneva where he developed his skills in anterior muscle sparing approach to the hip joint. After that, he took the offer and became a consultant at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital.
As of today, Panos Gikas is the consultant orthopedic and sarcoma surgeon at Roval National orthopedic hospital, located at Stanmore, Middlesex. He is also associated with the London Sarcoma Service and Spire Bushey Hospital. Panos Gikas is also associated with Royal National Orthopedic Hospital and Lister Hospital which is located in Chelsea. When he wants to take a break from all these activities in the hospitals, he will often be seen water-skiing or enjoying bodies of water. Panos Gikas Treatments, Researches, And Training
As an orthopedic surgeon, Panos Gikas treatments are focused on everything related to the knee. He does revision hip and knee reconstruction, as well as treating cases of bone and soft tissue tumors. Gikas also use anterior muscle sparing approach to the hip joint and custom made implants and instruments for joint reconstruction practices. Along with these methods, he also uses robotic joint surgery, stem cell & cartilage implant surgery, and arthroscopic knee surgery for joint reconstruction.
Dr. Panos Gikas is also known for his researches in orthopedics. Because of the excellence of his research, he has been awarded grants in support for the researches, as well as academic prizes throughout his career. As of now, he authored 7 book chapters and more than 30 research papers. Some of his works are adopted into national guidelines when it comes to the management of cartilage defects of the knee joint. Right now, he is currently researching for new-gen endoprosthetic joint replacements and application of photodynamic therapy in avoidance of infection.
