James Dondero bands together with Linda Owen in a move to plan for the expansion of Highland Capital Management, L.P.’s Philanthropy
Linda Owen has joined hands with Highland Capital Management, L.P. (HCM) becoming of the management of HCM’s philanthropic activities. Linda Owen shall conduct her operations in collaboration with The Dallas Foundation, which runs HCM’s charitable giving fund.
Highland Capital Management, L.P. is a firm registered with the SEC as an investment advisor. The firm was founded in 1993 and is currently managing assets worth more than $17 billion. The firm was founded by James Dondero and Mark Okada. Mr. Dondero is the current president of the organization.
Mr. Dondero has accumulated vast experience in equity markets and credit management in a career spanning over 30 years. Before the inception of HCM, Mr. Dondero was the CIO of GIC where he helped create Protective Life in 1989, a subsidiary that had accumulated assets under management of over $2 billion by 1993. In the year 1985 to 1993, James worked at American Express as a corporate bond analyst and a portfolio manager.
A commerce graduate of University of Virginia, James Dondero, majored in finance and accounting. He is a certified public accountant, a chartered financial analyst, and a certified management accountant. Besides being HCm’s president, Dondero is also the chairman of Nexbank, CCS medical, and cornerstone healthcare. He also serves MGM studios and American banknote as a board member.
Linda Owen is a respected civic leader based in Dallas and The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation’s former president. In her words, Linda expressed optimism about working with The Dallas Foundation towards creating programs that will achieve a positive impact in society.
Highland capital gives over three million dollars annually to charity through The Dallas Foundation. The mainly supported programs are those promoting veterans, the Dallas community, education, and healthcare.
Many organizations have benefited from HCM’s charity operations. Such organizations include the American Heart Association, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the Dallas zoo, and the center for brain health. HCM’s philanthropic activities expand beyond funding as its employees and founders also offer managerial assistance and board services to various community organizations.
